experience...
I started my career as a Graphic Designer working with a software documentation company, that was my introduction to application design and the development world. I moved from there to IBM as a UI designer working on application interfaces, that role had a strong focus on usability and human computer interaction. While there I worked with several engineering teams and amongst the many projects that I worked on I designed the touch screen virtual reality tour for The National Gallery of Ireland.
I was then head hunted by Iona Technologies to head up their design department and manage a team of designers. I was responsible for generating creative solutions to briefs for a suite of applications. The role involved collaborating with the software development teams and coordinating the multiple disciplines within the design team to produce the user interface for the products.
I moved to the US to work on designing and developing an SQL database product for a startup 'spun' out of Iona Technologies before relocating to Austin Texas to work in the area of design for e-commerce applications with a company that was eventually acquired by Amazon. I was working with a cross functional team that included UX and UI designers, front end developers and software architects, and collaborating with the management team to help define the product vision.
I returned to Ireland at the beginning of the Covid pandemic to take up the Product Design Lead role with Vizor, an Irish company that develops applications for supervisory and regulatory authorities in the banking sector. My primary responsibility was to lead the design initiative in the development of a new UI utilising a frontend framework. Create the frontend framework and component library for the application UI. In late 2021 Vizor was acquired by BearingPoint. I'm currently working as the design lead on the supervisory application that will form part of the regulatory suite of products there (Regnology).
